Closed traumatic rupture of the cervical trachea.
Rupture of the trachea is a rare accident. Injuries that are a part of open wounds in the cervical region are usually due to suicidal cutthroat or to gunshot wounds. Their emergency treatment and early repair or late reconstruction present a distinct surgical problem (Scott, 1928; Knight, 1946; Longmire, 1948; Maisel and Dingwall, 1950). Rupture of the thoracic trachea may occur in severe close...
متن کاملThe distribution of serotonin-immunoreactive cells in larynx, trachea and bronchi of goat (Capra aegagrus) and bovine (Bos taurus)
The respiratory tract contains numerous peptides secreted from special pulmonary epithelial cells whichare called endocrine cells. The function of neuroendocrine cells is modulated by amines. Serotonin has strong vasomotor and bronchomotor effects in the airway mucosa. The objective of this study was to determine presence and distribution of serotonin-positive endocrine cells in respiratory tra...
متن کاملRepeated Tracheostomy Tube Cuff Rupture Due to Tracheobronchopathia Osteochondroplastica: A Case Report
Introduction: Tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica (TPO) is a rare benign disorder of the lower part of the trachea and the upper part of the main bronchi. Case Report: A case of tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica (TPO) diagnosed at the time of intubation in an intensive care unit due to difficulty when advancing the endotracheal tube beyond the vocal cords, is reported. A problem...
متن کاملManagement of low tracheal rupture in patients requiring mechanical ventilation for acute respiratory distress syndrome.
MANAGEMENT of tracheal rupture involving the lower third of the trachea is a difficult issue. As suggested by recent literature, conservative treatment should be considered in spontaneously breathing patients, to allow the injury to heal. For those requiring mechanical ventilation, this healing is hindered by the presence of the cuff resting on the injury and/or by the positive airway pressure....
متن کاملManagement of Laryngotracheal and Tracheobronchial Injuries
Laryngotracheal and tracheobronchial injuries are uncommon, and their successful diagnosis and management often require a high level of expertise. This paper aimed at retrospective analysis of a thoracic surgeon's experience in the diagnosis and management of traumatic injuries to the larynx, trachea and major bronchi. Forty one patients with major airway trauma were managed from March 1994 to ...
